To avoid delays, the county is working to make the system as easy as possible. There are 4 lanes. The right two are for SunPass and AnnualPass holders. The left two are for cash. But now there is a third option. Toll-by-Plate.
Toll by plate means that you can pass on through any lane without stopping, and if you don't have a pass, they will send you a bill. You are charged a $2.50 extra administration fee for the first pass, but each additional crossing that month is just $1. Just slow down, but keep on moving!
If you have a toll pass from another state, you can check if your state has an agreement with Florida here. Florida toll readers still recognize Peach Pass and E-Zpass transponders.
Of course, if you want to wait in line to pay your $1 cash toll, you can do that in the left lanes. But consider the cost of gas as you idle, and the time wasted as you delay your vacation start.
HIGH VOLUME SPECIAL TIMES - The choices of Toll-by-Plate may be your only option if you don't have a recognized transponder on busy Saturdays, as the county is remaining flexible to alleviate traffic congestion on high volume days. They may eliminate the cash option from one hour to the next. So watch for notices and toll personnel directing you to pass on through and keep the traffic moving. This doesn't mean the toll isn't being collected, it just means you may get a bill in the mail.
If you have a rental car, please check with them before you arrive to see how they will handle the toll-by-plate possibility.
Anytime the power is out, or there is an issue with the toll reader, the toll may be waived. Just be ready and alert to anything!

Thanks for the tip! How much time do you think it saves during the busy peak season with long wait times? And do you get billed by the address that you have attached to the Department of Vehicles with your license plate?
Since it is new this week, we will have to wait and see. It is in response to the latest change last month that has made waits of more than an hour longer. We hope this latest change will be the fix!

If you have a Georgia Peach Pass or North Carolina E-ZPass, you are good to go! The transponders are read by Florida Toll Booths vice versa.
